As the largest provider in the colocation data center market, Equinix delivers secure, high-availability environments where enterprises interconnect and manage their digital operations.

With a mission-critical focus on uptime and performance, Equinix partners with trusted service providers to expand and maintain the reliability of its infrastructure, including the live data center environment serviced in this project.

Scope of Work

Scope: Installation of eight (8) CRAC units with associated piping, controls, and fire system integration in an active live data center.
Completion Time: Executed with near-zero downtime
Challenges: Strict security clearances, live mission-critical environment, coordination with multiple contractors (Controls + Fire Alarm), and tight scheduling

Our Solution

  • Installed eight (8) CRAC units with condensers and leg extensions
  • Ran new refrigerant piping and pressure-tested all connections
  • Charged each unit with refrigerant after integrity testing
  • Installed 2 CAT6 runs per unit and coordinated handoff with the controls team
  • Integrated eight Fenwal modules into the fire system and tied into the Fenwalnet 8000
  • Verified all control and safety systems before project completion

Results & Benefits

  • Uninterrupted Operations: Work completed with no impact to ongoing data operations
  • Long-Term Reliability: Equipment and piping upgrades support improved cooling and system redundancy
  • Future Scalability: Increased capacity for heat load rejection ensures readiness for future IT demands

Mission Success

This project exemplifies Thermal Concepts’ ability to execute complex installations within live, high-security environments. By coordinating seamlessly with fire system contractors and controls teams, and completing all mechanical work without affecting uptime, Thermal Concepts helped Equinix enhance performance while safeguarding the integrity of one of the most critical infrastructures in the digital world.
